Canada Pushes Free Trade With India
Speaking to members of the Canadian and Indian business community, the Canadian
Minister for International Trade, Peter Van Loan spoke of the promise of increased
bilateral trade with India, including the signing of a crucial economic
partnership agreement, talks for which will begin, he announced, in the next
few weeks.
Canada 'Has World's Soundest Banking System'
The Canadian government has remarked on the release of the World Economic Forum’s
2010-11 Global Competitiveness Report, which has affirmed Canada as having ‘the
world’s soundest banking system’.

News that the European Commission plans to push ahead with proposals to introduce
a Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base have been met with distrust
in Ireland as some fear that the proposals, whilst not immediately affecting Ireland’s
12.5% corporate income tax rate, may introduce tax harmonization in
Europe through the back door.
IMF Chief Calls For Central EU Fiscal Body
In a speech given at the Bruegel Institute Conference 'Sovereign Risk and Fiscal Policy in the Euro Area', Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund supported the creation of a centralized fiscal authority, with political independence comparable to that of the European Central Bank.
Cayman Reports Rise In Saving Income Declarations
The Cayman Islands’ Tax Information Authority – the authority responsible
for the reporting of savings income information received from domestic 'paying
agents', and for then transmitting that information to the relevant counterpart
competent authorities in EU member states – has published details on the
amount of interest paid to EU residents during 2009.
