Canada Restricts Employment Insurance Increase
Canadian Minister for Finance, Jim Flaherty has announced that, to support
Canada’s economic recovery, increases to Employment Insurance premiums
will be restricted.

China Rejects Any Price Hike From Australian Mining Tax
The secretary-general of the China Iron and Steel Association, Shan Shanghua,
has emphasized that China will not accept any increase in iron ore prices arising
from the Australian government’s proposed mineral resources rent tax.

IoM, Jersey Engage With EU On Tax
The Isle of Man and Jersey have announced their participation in the first session
of ongoing talks with the European Union Code of Conduct for Business Taxation Group, on
September 23, where technical discussions were held with regard to the two territories'
corporate tax regimes and their respective anti-avoidance provisions.
Ireland Faces New EU Tax Assault
Members of the European Parliament have discussed with the Central Bank President, Jean-Claude Trichet, new proposals to impose penalties on European Union member states that break predetermined limits with regards to debt, with some pro-tax advocates using the discussions as a platform to urge the enforced doubling of Ireland's corporate tax rate, and the adoption of the Common Consolidated Tax Base, should the country require EU financial support.
